HEAVY TRAFFIC EXPECTED DURING MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Motorists in North Carolina can expect heavier than usual traffic conditions due to holiday travel from Friday, May 24th through Tuesday, May 28th. In particular, motorists should expect extremely heavy traffic delays in the vicinity of the Charlotte Motor Speedway due to racing events taking place through the weekend.

Roads in the vicinity of the Speedway, northeast of Charlotte, expected to be impacted include I-77, I-85, I-485, US-29, and NC-49. Motorists can expect the heaviest congestion to occur from early morning on Saturday, May 25th, until early morning on Monday, May 27th.

NCDOT reminds motorists to leave early and to travel during non-peak hours when possible. North Carolina law requires all vehicle occupants to wear their seat belt. Motorists should drive safely, obeying all posted speed limits and refrain from texting while driving.

LEABOURNE RD TO BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED AT NC-68

As part of the construction of Guilford Technical Community College’s Donald W. Cameron Campus, Leabourne Rd will be temporarily closed at NC-68 in Guilford County beginning Monday, February 25^th through Friday, May 31^st.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra time to reach their destination, are advised to use the following signed detour:

NC-68 to Pleasant Ridge Rd to Cude Rd to Leabourne Rd.

I-85 SOUTHBOUND ENTRANCE RAMP CLOSED, NEAR LEXINGTON

The entrance ramp to I-85 South from Hargrave Rd, Exit 88 Linwood, will be closed beginning Friday, January 4^th, 2013 and will remain closed until the project is completed in the Summer of 2013. Motorists wishing to access I-85 South from Hargrave Rd will need to use the following signed detour:

Motorists should travel north on Hargrave Rd (SR 1224) and turn left to continue onto Hargrave Ln. Continue on Hargrave Ln and turn left onto I-85 Business Southbound. Continue on I-85 Business Southbound to re-access I-85.

The Winston-Salem Entertainment Sports Complex will be hosting multiple high school graduation events throughout the day. Congestion is expected to be increased in the vicinity of the Complex.

In anticipation of an increased traffic volume surrounding this event, Complex personnel and the Winston-Salem Police Department will be managing major intersections in the vicinity of the Complex. Variable messaging systems located along highways I-40, I-40 Business/US-421, and US-52 will be displaying messages to advise motorists of traffic information.

The Winston-Salem Entertainment Sports Complex, WSPD, WSDOT, and NCDOT advise all patrons to plan to arrive at least one hour early and carpooling is strongly encouraged. It is also recommended that commuters not attending these events should avoid the University Parkway/Deacon Boulevard area throughout the day if possible.

The Greensboro Coliseum Complex will be hosting an evening concert with expected attendance to exceed 12,000 patrons. Congestion is expected to increase in the vicinity of the Coliseum during the evening hours prior to and at the conclusion of the event.

In anticipation of an increased traffic volume surrounding this event, Coliseum personnel and the Greensboro Police Department will be managing major intersections in the vicinity of the Complex. Variable messaging systems located along highways I-40, I-85, I-73, and US-29 will be displaying messages to advise motorists of traffic information.

The Coliseum Complex, GPD, GDOT, and NCDOT advise all patrons to plan to arrive at least one hour early and carpooling is strongly encouraged. It is also recommended that commuters not attending these events should avoid the Coliseum/High Point Road area during the earlier morning hours if possible.

Pending favorable weather, the contractor will be performing two separate lane closures:
1. Business 40 westbound, just west of Salem Lake -- the contractor will be closing the right lane to replace the "Fifth Street 1 Mile" sign.
2. Business 40 westbound, just west of Exit 7 -- the contractor will be closing the right lane to replace the "MLK Jr. Dr./WSSU Univ. 1/2 Mile" sign.

Only one lane closure will be in place at any given time.

NCDOT will be milling and resurfacing US 158 - Stratford Road from Business 40 to I-40. This will be night-time work from 9:00 pm until 7:00 am Sunday through Thursday beginning on Sunday, June 2nd. The roadway will remain open, but motorists can expect minor delays resulting from lane closures and lane shifts. Please use caution as you travel through this area.

Contract forces will be closing all lanes of westbound I-40, during the weekend, at the Yadkin River bridge in order to perform bridge preservation work. They will be placing a new concrete overlay on the riding surface of the bridge. The bridge is at the Forsyth/Davie County line at mile marker 181 approximately 1 mile west of the Harper Rd. interchange (Exit 182). The road closures will occur beginning on Fridays at 8:00 PM with the road reopening by 6:00 AM on Mondays. The road closures are anticipated for the following three weekends: May 31-June 3, June 7-10 and June 14-17. These closures will be installed pending favorable weather. There will be a signed offsite detour during the closure. Portable message boards or overhead message signs will be utilized during the weeks leading up to the closures advertising anticipated dates of closures.

Motorists are advised to use other routes or avoid this area if possible during these times.

Please use caution in this area and stay alert due to heavy congestion.

The contractor will be closing down both Northbound Lanes of I-85 Business. The inside lane of Southbound I-85 Business will be carrying the Northbound traffic. Contractors will be installing median asphalt crossovers to allow the Northbound traffic access to the Southbound lane. There will be a maximum vehicle width of 15' allowed through this area. A signed detour will be posted. This traffic control will be necessary to allow contractors to demolish and construct a new Northbound bridge.

Contract forces will be closing Hunt Rd. (SR 2504) beginning Monday, May 27, 2013 to replace the bridge over a branch of Lick Creek. The road will be closed for 90 consecutive calendar days and should be reopened by Tuesday, August 27, 2013. The point of closure is approximately 0.2 mile south of the intersection at Denton Rd. The road will be closed to through traffic and there will be a signed off-site detour.
