US 158 REDUCED TO TWO LANES ON WRIGHT MEMORIAL BRIDGE NEAR KITTY HAWK
Due to bridge construction the US-158 Westbound Wright Memorial bridge will be closed near the Currituck and Dare County line. The road is not expected to re-open until the bridge work is complete on May 15th, 2014. Heavy congestion and delays are expected on weekends and holidays.
Traffic will shift westbound just before the intersection of U.S. 158 and S. Dogwood Trail/Woods Road. Traffic will go from two lanes down to one and will be shifted into the right lane of eastbound U.S. 158 at the intersection with Martins Point Road/Barlow Lane, creating the two-lane, two-way pattern that will continue across the eastbound bridge. Once westbound traffic reaches the west side of the sound, it will be shifted back into the westbound lanes of U.S. 158 at the intersection with Holly Lane/Swan Circle.
Motorists are advised to use the following alternate route during weekends and holidays:
Traffic heading to Dare County can use US 17 South to NC 37 just east of Edenton. Follow NC 37 to NC 32/94 to US 64 East. Traffic leaving the outer banks can use US 64 West to NC 32/94 to NC 37 to US 17 North.
